Where this goes next

Which clubs are next, and why.

Not a wish list. Each one is here because part of it already runs at a real venue — and each entry says which part, so you can judge the claim instead of taking it.

Built, and in production.

Both were built against a named venue with that venue's own rates, programmes and season — and each ships a second tenant of a deliberately different shape, because one customer is not a test of a platform.

Does it have a roster, a door and a diary?

That is very nearly the whole qualification. Everything below passes it. What separates the tiers is how much of the vertical tenth already exists in one of the two editions we have shipped.

01

A roster

People who pay to belong, for a season or a year, with roles, emergency contacts and guardians for the ones who are twelve.

02

A liability

Something that has to be signed before anybody is on the floor, the ice, the water or the wall — and proved afterwards.

03

A finite resource

Sheets, courts, lanes, bays, berths, rooms, the hall on a Saturday. Something two people can want at once and only one can have.

04

A season

A repeating cycle that gets scheduled, played or taught, scored or assessed, and billed at the end of it.

In build, and exploring.

In build means most of the vertical module exists already under another name. Exploring means the core fits and the vertical tenth is real work — which is said plainly rather than sold around.

In build

venueOS Hall

Legions & social clubs. Dues, the hall diary, bar shifts and who is allowed through the door.

The Legion branch already is this product: a dues-paying roster, a hall that gets rented, a bar with a volunteer rota, a door that should only open for members in good standing, and a treasurer who needs one bill per member per year. Every one of those is a core module that shipped with Curl.

  • Dues — Annual membership years, early renewal, life members, transfers between branches.
  • The hall — Rentals for funerals, weddings and meetings — enquiry, quote, invoice, and no double booking.
  • Executive — Offices and terms, committee membership, minutes and the document shelf.
  • Bar & kitchen — Shifts, volunteer hours, and the Thursday lunch rotation.
  • Campaigns — Poppy and appeal drives — volunteers, hours, tallies.

Reuses from the coreAlmost the whole core, unchanged. This is the curling club with the ice taken out.

In build

venueOS Court

Racquet clubs. Court sheets, ladders and box leagues.

A racquet club is a curling club whose sheets are courts and whose bonspiel is a tournament. The scheduling engine, the standings view and the booking constraint all transfer without modification — only the vocabulary changes.

  • Courts — A bookable finite resource with an exclusion constraint. This is the ice sheet, renamed.
  • Ladders — Challenge ladders and box leagues, with standings computed from results.
  • Round robins — The curling draw generator, pointed at courts instead of sheets.
  • Coaching — Lessons, clinics and junior programmes — the climbing programme module.
  • Tournaments — Draws, seeding, consolation brackets. The bonspiel ladder generalised.

In build

venueOS Rink

Rinks & skating clubs. Ice allocation, skill levels and the association's season.

The curling build already allocates ice and refuses to book a rental over league night. A skating club's badge ladder is structurally identical to the climbing certificate ladder, prerequisites and all.

  • Ice allocation — Already in the schema. Sold, shared and protected against double booking.
  • Badge levels — CanSkate and STARSkate levels are a prerequisite ladder — the certification module, renamed.
  • Teams & divisions — Rostering by age and tier, with league play and standings.
  • Test days & competitions — Entries, panels, and results.
  • Volunteer bonds — Hours owed, hours served, and what happens when they are not.

Reuses from the coreMembers, registration, waivers, money, door access, broadcasts, content.

Exploring

venueOS Dock

Yacht, sailing & rowing clubs. Berths, boat registers and the race series.

A berth is a bookable finite resource billed by the season. Safety certifications gate who may take a boat out, exactly as a belay certificate gates a wall. Race series scoring is best-N-rounds, which the climbing league already computes.

Reuses from the coreMembers, dues, waivers, certifications, bookings, money, door access.

Exploring

venueOS Bench

Makerspaces & tool libraries. Tool certifications, equipment loans and 24-hour door access.

This is the closest structural match to Crag of anything on this page. Tool sign-offs are the certificate ladder with prerequisites and revocation; equipment loans are the gear module with its one-loan-per-item index; and the door opens only for a member whose training is current.

Reuses from the coreMembers, dues, waivers, certifications, gear, door access, bookings, money.

Exploring

venueOS Mat

Studios & martial arts. Class timetables, punch cards and belt progression.

Yoga, pilates, dance and martial arts all run terms of classes against a capacity, sell punch cards and recurring plans, and track a rank ladder. Sessions generated onto real dates in the venue's own timezone — including across daylight saving — is work the climbing build already did.

Reuses from the coreMembers, terms & rates, programmes, enrolment, waivers, check-in, money.

Exploring

venueOS Range

Shooting & archery clubs. Range booking, qualifications and a door that means it.

Access control and certification are not conveniences here, they are the regulatory requirement — which is the part of the platform that is already strictest. Lane booking and match scoring are familiar shapes.

Reuses from the coreMembers, dues, waivers, certifications, bookings, door access, money.

Exploring

venueOS Lane

Swim clubs & aquatics. Lane allocation, swim levels and meet entries.

Lane time is allocated exactly as ice is. Swim lesson levels are a prerequisite ladder. Meet entries, heats and results are the competition module with different scoring.

Reuses from the coreMembers, registration, programmes, enrolment, waivers, money, content.

Exploring

venueOS Commons

Community & municipal recreation. Programme registration, facility rentals and subsidised rates.

A municipal recreation department is several venues at once, which is what the multi-tenant model is for. The hard part is not the software, it is subsidy eligibility and public procurement — so this one is listed honestly as the furthest away.

What doesn't fit.

A platform that claims every business is a good fit is a platform that has not thought about it. These are the shapes venueOS is the wrong answer for, and we would rather say so on a website than on the fourth call.

The common thread: no roster. If the people coming through the door are strangers rather than members, almost none of the core is doing anything for you, and you are buying a booking widget at the price of a platform.

Not this

  • Ticketed venues — cinemas, theatres, concert halls
  • Hotels, campsites and short-term rental
  • Restaurants and bars without a membership
  • Retail, and anything whose main event is a checkout
  • Big-box fitness chains already on a national system
  • Anything regulated as childcare rather than recreation

Not on the list?

If your venue has a roster, a liability, a finite resource and a season, it very likely belongs here and we have simply not written it down yet. Tell us what it does.
